How Technology and AI might change the way we hire

I have been asked quite a few times about how technology and AI might change the way we hire people. Thought I would share my response and also get the thoughts of others in the community too.

I think it is not a straightforward discussion about humans vs bots. I am supportive of using technology as an enabler to help us become more efficient with voluminous and repetitive tasks and to aid us in our decision making process through analytics and AI insights. For example, bots can be used to do mass screening of entry level jobs where there are thousands of applicants.

However not every task and job can be fully replaced by machines (not in the foreseeable future at least). If we are still hiring human beings, we need humans to deal with humans. For example I don’t see machines replicating empathy in humans. For the advanced stages in an interview process at least, both employee and employer need to have the human connection to establish if the fit is right. It would be a sad day for mankind if we just replace everything with machines. That would be a cold, transactional and soulless world.

So yes, I think I am pretty sure that recruiters/headhunters will still have a job a few years down the road 🙂
